I’ve come to realize that you’re either an avid cruiser or the thought of getting onto a ship for any number of days makes you want to hurl. There is no in-between. Lol!! My husband and I fall into the former category. At the beginning of the year, we took our very first family cruise. It was my husband and I’s fifth cruise, and it was amazing!! The boys had the best time. On the drive home, my oldest informed us that he’d like to move to Galveston to be closer to the port so that he could get on the Liberty of the Seas whenever he could. He’s the cutest! đ
In today’s post, I’ll be sharing all about our 7-day cruise aboard the Liberty of the Seas with Royal Caribbean. Navid and I have been on both Royal and Carnival cruise ships. Of the two, we prefer Royal. Their ships are breathtaking! At one of the ports of call, we docked right next to the Harmony of the Seas one of their biggest ships, and Navid just kept saying my goodness it’s just a wonder. It was HUGE!!
We had decided beforehand that we wanted to keep this trip as laid back as possible. We just wanted to relax and spend some quality time together as a family. So, we didn’t book any excursions. The only thing I wanted to take advantage of was the professional photo opportunities on the ship. I highly recommend that you go through and plan all your activities and “extras” before the cruise. Everything is significantly more expensive once you’re on the ship. I’ve broken this post down into four categories, Galveston, Liberty of the Seas, Ports of Call, and Professional Photos. Let’s dive in!
Galveston
Our cruise departed out of Galveston, TX, on a Sunday. We decided to drive down on Saturday, stay the night, and get on the ship fresh the next morning. Best decision ever! We’ve had some worthy storytelling experiences in the past getting on the ship, so we wanted to make sure everything went smoothly.Â
The drive to Galveston, I think this video will sum it up for you. đ Life with my husband is anything but dull. He sure does keep it interesting, and I love him for it! We had a four-hour drive from Dallas to Galveston, and the boys were troopers! They had their iPads loaded up with their favorite shows and movies, and Navid and I were able to relax and talk. It was a good ride.
When we arrived in Galveston, we drove straight to The Spot for some grub. We had been there before with friends and remembered how delicious the food was. I had the blackened fish tacos, the boys had mac n cheese and a burger, and Navid got this monstrosity of a burger (see picture below). I think it was a specialty burger because I do not see it on the menu. It was as delicious as I remember it! After dinner, we took a little stroll on the beach. That night we found a newly built La Quinta Inn to stay the night. It was so clean and beautiful! We woke up in the morning and enjoyed the excellent continental breakfast they offer and headed back to the beach for a little bit before heading to the port to board the ship. Galveston treated us well!
Liberty of The Seas
We had two days at sea before reaching our first port of call, and let me tell you it goes by fast. There is so much to do on this ship! We played mini-golf, went ice skating, watched shows, and the kids played in the fantastic splash area, we swam, we ate all the ice cream, we ate ALL the things haha! The ship has two kids waterslides, three more massive waterslides, the FlowRider surfing simulator, and the royal promenade has all these different shops and restaurants. When I say there is so much to do, there is SO much to do!
All these things, but you know what my kids loved the most? The fancy sitdown dinners with mom and dad. They loved dressing up, having dad fix their hair, and going to dinner. I thought dinner was going to be challenging, but sure enough, they surprised me. They were so well behaved and were ordering steak and caesar salads by the end of it. If you know my kids, you know they are the pickiest eaters known to man. It was so fun watching them enjoy themselves.
Ports of Call
The one thing the boys wanted to do at the ports of call was to snorkel. We put on our bathing suits and lugged the snorkeling gear with us off the ship at every port, but unfortunately, the weather didn’t allow for snorkeling. We ended up letting them give the snorkels a go in the pool one day. They had no idea what they were doing. Lol! I think it was a blessing in disguise; we didn’t get to go into the ocean. Could you imagine them drinking and getting salt water in their eyes? It would have been a disaster! Luckily, the ports have lots of shops and restaurants, so we walked around, shopped, and took in the culture.

Professional Photos
I mentioned earlier the one thing I wanted to do was take advantage of the professional photo opportunities on the ship and did we ever! We took over 500 photos! It had been several years since we had taken professional family photos, so I coordinated outfits for every night and took ALL the pictures. Haha! Again, the boys were troopers. They were taking instructions from the photographers like a pro by the end. The last night we decided to take it easy and skip the sitdown dinner and photos, and the boys were bummed!
Tell me which category do you fall into? Are you an avid cruiser or part of the I will never step on a vessel of that magnitude and sail off into the deep blue ocean club? Please share in the comments down below! I want to hear your thoughts!

We like the idea of a cruise but, because of my mobility issues, have never considered doing. It looks like it was so great for your family. Wonderful blog and photos.
Thank you Jodi!! I hear you, itâs definitely not for everyone. I was an experienced cruiser and still had nervous moments. Itâs totally different with kids đł
