Description

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

“Maybe part of falling in love with someone else is also falling in love with yourself.”

My Thoughts

The Sun is Also a Star is a beautiful and thought-provoking story about love, fate, and destiny. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book, for the most part, tells the story by going back and forth between Natasha and Daniel’s points of view. However, the author throws in chapters from other characters that appear in the book, and it gives the book so much more perspective. I found the author’s writing style unique and easy to follow.

“There’s a pure kind of joy in the certainty of belief. The certainty that your life has purpose and meaning. That, though your earthly life may be hard, there’s a better place in your future, and God has a plan to get you there.”

Daniel is such a hopeless romantic and Natasha, a practical realist. Would they ever come together and see eye to eye when it came to love? Would they beat the odds and end up together in the end? This book pulls you in from the very beginning. I had to force myself to pace myself and not read into the wee hours of the night. I finished it in less than five days, and that was me pacing myself, haha! It is such a great book. I highly recommend it!

The Movie

Ugh. No surprise here, the book was so much better than the movie. The basic storyline was there, but so many details were left out and changed. Honestly, it was all wrong when compared to the book. The book gives you so much more depth. Read the book! Movies are an excellent way to visualize the story, but they always seem to miss the mark when telling the story. I did love the soundtrack, though!
