I’ve followed a lot of recipes in my lifetime, but I’ve never written one until today. Here is my very first recipe, Noosha’s Meat Sauce. This recipe will keep the jarred and processed pasta sauce out of your home! Make your own with this quick and easy recipe. I use this sauce for spaghetti, lasagna, recently my husband and I have been topping our zoodles with it, and just a couple weeks ago I used it for stuffed pasta shells. It’s super versatile.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over med-high heat
Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent
Add ground beef and garlic, breaking up ground beef with a wooden spoon until browned
Drain any excess grease
Stir in Italian seasoning, garlic salt, black pepper, lemon pepper, onion powder, ground cumin, and garlic powder
Sauté this mixture for about 2 minutes
Add tomato paste and sauté for another minute
Stir in canned petite diced tomatoes
Add water and bring to a boil
Cover slightly ajar or use a splatter guard (I love this one)
Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes stirring occasionally
You could substitute the ground beef for any other meat of choice, turkey, pork or even a combination of different meats. I’ve tried it with ground turkey, and it’s delicious. You could also easily make this recipe vegetarian by replacing the ground beef with your favorite hearty vegetable, like portabella mushrooms.
If you don’t have Italian seasoning on hand, you can also use one teaspoon each of dried basil, parsley, and oregano. You could also use fresh herbs for more flavor.
Please keep in mind I am not a trained chef or recipe writer. I do love to cook and enjoy experimenting with cooking. I don’t take it too seriously. If it smells good, looks good, and tastes good, then it’s going in my belly. Lol!
