Winter Break Activities – Dallas Edition

This post contains commissionable links.

It’s officially winter break. Check on your stay at home and work from home moms. We are not ok! 😉 There is nothing more challenging than trying to think of ways to keep your kids busy when they’re not in school. Today, I’m putting together a list of ten winter break activities around the Dallas area. Let’s jump right in!

Holiday Lights

Lights at the Cove

Visit Hidden Cove Park & Marina for a drive-through Christmas lights experience. Enter through the tunnel of lights, see all of your favorite Christmas characters throughout the park, and enjoy fun for the whole family. This is a free event with a toy or small monetary donation. For more information, check out their Facebook page.

Vitruvian Lights

Addison’s Vitruvian Park transforms into a magical winter wonderland during the holiday season. Grab some hot chocolate and take a stroll through the park to enjoy the tree lights. The reflection of trees off the water makes the experience that much better. Click here for more information.

Prairie Lights

Visit Lynn Creek Park on Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie and experience the greatness that is Prairie Lights. Drive through the spectacular light display. Halfway through, you can get out of your car and visit the holiday village. Be sure to check out the indoor holiday show, walk through the magic lighted forest, and don’t forget to take pictures with Santa! You will not run out of things to do at Prairie Lights. Get more information here.

Christmas Spectacular Light Show

Visiting The Colony’s central fire station for their light show has become a tradition in our family. Load up the kids with some of your favorite snacks, park in the parking lot across the firehouse, tune in to 99.9 FM on your radio, and enjoy the beautifully choreographed light show. Get more information here.

Malls

Whether in Dallas or any other city, be sure to check out your local malls for winter break activities. Two of our largest malls in the Dallas area have great holiday programs!

Head to Galleria Dallas for ice-skating and check out one of the tallest indoor Christmas trees. Make a day of it by doing some shopping and grabbing lunch. If you have small children, don’t forget to check out the play area on the third floor.

Northpark Mall offers so many holiday activities from visiting Santa to a variety of performances. Be sure to check out the Scrooge Puppet Theatre, The Twelve Days of Christmas Clock, and The Trains at Northpark. There is so much to see!

Other Places to Visit

Studio Movie Grill

Did you know Studio Movie Grill offers $5 Tuesdays! That means you get to watch any movie at any time on a Tuesday and your movie ticket it only $5! As far as I can tell, this applies to any Studio Movie Grill location.

Gaylord Texan

There is so much to see and do at the Gaylord Texan. The resort is decorated with over 2 million Christmas lights and let me tell you it’s a breathtaking sight! Exploring the resort is a complete activity all on its own, and the best part is that it’s free! They do, however, offer a slew of things to do. Such as snow tubing, a Christmas carousel, scavenger hunts, gingerbread house decorating, and let’s not forget the pièce de rèsistance ICE! Experience larger than life ice sculptures of Charlie Brown and friends.

Crayola Experience

My kids love visiting the Crayola Experience in Plano. Located inside the Shops at Willow Bend mall, Crayola Experience offers over 20 one of a kind attractions. Learn how crayons are made, name and wrap your own crayon, make all kinds of crayon creations, play at the color playground, and don’t forget to check out the Crayola store on your way out. If you live in the Dallas area, I highly recommend purchasing an annual pass.

KidZania USA

Newly opened KidZania USA at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco looks impressive! I must admit we have not had the opportunity to visit, but friends have shared what an incredible experience it is for kids. KidZania is a mini-city where kids can participate in many different role-playing activities. They also offer several dining options right inside the facility.
