Calling all my sushi lovers! In today’s post, I’ll be sharing how I make my California rolls. My boys have recently started to enjoy sushi and ask for it multiple times a week. They’ve been brave and have even tried raw sushi. However, their preference is the California roll. Years ago, before children, I had dabbled in making California rolls for my husband and me. I never could get the crab meat just how I liked it. It wouldn’t stay together nicely and didn’t have much flavor. I started doing some research and, after some trial and error, came up with a mixture we’re all enjoying. Now I can’t stop making these rolls. Making sushi can be so much fun, and I hope this post inspires you to try and make some homemade California rolls for yourself.
Add crab meat, sesame seed oil, and mayo to food processor and pulse until the mixture comes together
Cut your cucumber into matchstick pieces
Slice your avocado
To prepare your sushi rice first rinse your rice until water runs clear
Add washed rice and water to a small pot and bring to a boil
Reduce heat to low and let simmer for about 20 minutes
Combine the rice vinegar, avocado oil, sugar, and salt in a bowl and microwave in 30-second increments stirring in between until sugar and salt are dissolved
Once the rice is cooked, transfer to a bowl and add the rice vinegar mixture and stir until the rice is coated
Let rice mixture cool
Place a sushi nori sheet on your bamboo mat and spread an even amount of rice on the top two-thirds of the sheet
Sprinkle a bit of the sesame seed onto rice
Flip your sushi nori sheet
On the bottom third of the sheet where there is no rice, add your desired amount of fillings
Using your bamboo mat to guide you roll your sushi tightly while gently shaping your sushi into a nice roll
Take a sharp knife and dip the blade in water to avoid sticking and slice your roll into bite-size pieces
Enjoy with pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce
What is your favorite type of sushi? Will you eat raw fish? Do you prefer sashimi or rolls? Let’s chat in the comments down below. I enjoy the fresh taste of a good California roll, but my personal favorite is anything with spicy tuna. I do enjoy salmon as well. Cream cheese in sushi is a massive no-no for me. It makes me cringe just thinking about it, lol!
As always, thank you so much for stopping by, and I hope you give this California roll recipe a try! If you do, I would love to see it! Would you please tag me on any social media platform?
