Road Trip to Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort

There is something humbling about taking a road trip or traveling in general. It is so easy to get stuck in our day-to-day routines in our little bubbles. You become acutely aware of how vast this world truly is when you travel but more so when you hit the road—our road trip to the fantastic Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Florida from Texas was WOW!! The beautiful lush green trees on both sides of the highway were breathtaking. I had downloaded movies and didn’t watch one. I couldn’t take my eyes off the road! If you’ve been debating taking this road trip, let this be your sign to do it! I’ll be sharing all about our road trip to the beautiful Emerald Coast in today’s post.

DAY 1

We decide to stop midway on our way to Florida in Jackson, Mississippi. We stayed downtown in the beautiful Westin hotel. The hotel was clean, had a great indoor pool the boys enjoyed, and some fantastic art in the hallways. Downtown Jackson also had some great architecture and art. The front desk lady recommended we have dinner at the Iron Horse Grill, and it did not disappoint. I loved their shrimp and grits!

DAY 2

Is it really a road trip if you don’t make a stop at Buc-ee’s. This one we stopped at was huge!! It was somewhere off I-10 after we passed Mobile, AL. When I say huge, I mean HUGE, and it was packed. This anxiety-prone introvert mama didn’t last more than a trip to the bathroom before walking right out, lol!! The drive through Alabama was so beautiful and green. We stopped right before arriving at the resort and grabbed dinner at Fatboys in Miramar Beach. The boys ordered their wings, and they were a hit. Navid had the Lumberjack Burger, and I had the Classic Chicken Sandwich. Both were delicious. We then checked in at the resort. The boys enjoyed an evening swim, and then we called it a night.

DAY 3

For our first full day at the beautiful Sandestin Resort, we started with brunch at their poolside Sunset Bay Cafe. The food was so good we forgot to take pictures. We ordered their Cinnamon Roll, Banana Brulee French Toast, Strawberry Cream Cheese Waffles, and the Sunrise Platter. Everything was so delicious. We then enjoyed most of our day at the beach. The boys wanted sub sandwiches for dinner, so we tried out John Smith Subs. We tried The Steak Bomb, The Italian, and the Triple Deli Classic. Everything was yummy! After dinner, we took in the breathtaking sunset views on the bayside of the resort before calling it a night.

DAY 4

We spent most of this day poolside. Our room was on the bayside of the resort, and the pool was just downstairs with a beautiful view of the bay. Later in the evening, we headed to The Village of Baytowne Wharf. If you’re in the area, you must check out the village. It’s full of shops and dining, and they have live music and so many fun activities for the kids. We had dinner at Slick Lips Seafood and Oyster House. Navid and I ordered the shrimp tacos, and the kids found out they love fried shrimp. For dessert, we enjoyed some delicious ice cream from Moo La La. At the end of the night were lucky enough to catch a fireworks show as well.

DAY 5

We spent a little time at the beach and pool on our last full day before heading back to our room to relax. Later in the evening, we decided to drive out and see Seaside. Honestly, I think it was alright. There were a lot of food stands, but none stood out. We ended up at Pickle’s because of the enormous line, so we figured it must be excellent. It was ok. The boys all ordered hamburgers, and I got the club sandwich. I also ordered their fried pickles, thinking they’d be more like fried pickle chips. Nope! They were legit long pickle wedges. Yuck! I felt like I was eating warm pickles. Their onion rings were good, though, and the shakes were delicious! We ordered the strawberry shake, and it was heavenly!

All in all, it was a cute little area but not enough to do compared to our resort. We headed back to the resort and caught the beautiful sunset yet again. Gosh, I’m going to miss those!

DAY 6

Our last day of the trip was a travel day. Navid made us an excellent breakfast in the morning. We packed up, relaxed a bit, and hit the road. I wish we would have left first thing in the morning or stopped again midway because it felt like the longest drive ever! We got in a little before midnight, and we were exhausted. Needless to say, I needed a few days to recover, lol! Totally worth it!

A FEW THINGS WE PACKED

We made some fantastic memories on this trip, and I can’t wait to return. The Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort exceeded all our expectations and just made this the perfect beach vacation. I highly recommend it! There is so much to do, plus they offer lots of amenities such as bike, kayak, and boogie board rentals complimentary with your stay! Tennis court and fitness center access. A resort tram to get you around and preferred beach parking. It was wonderful!
