Before all the fun, we had to make sure we had all the gear. The thought of having to pack for a ski trip can be daunting add in having to do it for the entire family is enough to send you through a whirlwind. In today’s post, I’ll share an ultimate ski trip packing list in hopes of making your next ski trip as stress-free as possible.
After many years, we took a family ski trip to Colorado. The main focus of this trip was to get the boys acclimated to skiing and snowboarding, and it was such a joy watching them learn and get better with every run. We stayed in Silverthorne, CO, and spent our days skiing at Loveland Ski Area. Our initial plan was to go to Keystone, but as we drove to Silverthorne, we passed Loveland and decided to look it up, and I’m so glad we did. It was the perfect area for beginners and super affordable! I highly recommend checking out Loveland. Let’s jump into the ski trip packing list!
Ski Gear Rentals
I can not stress the importance of making a reservation for your ski gear rentals in advance, especially if you are going during the high season. We learned the hard way and could have saved a lot of time and money if we had looked into rentals in advance. A quick google search for rental shops near where you’re staying will do wonders for your peace of mind.
Ski Bibs and Pants
Ski bib or pants is the ultimate question. Ski bibs can be challenging when nature calls. However, I find that they’re more comfortable while on the slopes. Navid went with pants this trip, and the kids and I went with bibs. I spotted several people wearing the same bibs we had, and I understand why. The bibs were comfortable and warm with zipped pockets and are available in many colors.
Base Layers
Depending on where you’ll be skiing, the temps will determine what you’ll need in terms of base layers. I had purchased thermal sets for the kids and me. However, it was warmer during our stay, and we were overheating the first day. The next day I was wearing just a t-shirt and leggings under my bib. If you are in colder temps, you’ll need to layer up. Thermals and fleece will be a must.
Ski Jacket
Luckily we didn’t need to purchase new jackets for this trip. Believe it or not, I’ve been using the same jacket since middle school. I was so surprised to find that it still fits, lol!! I did research jackets before realizing it still fit, and this is what I found.
Goggles, Gaiters, Socks, and Gloves Oh My!
Again these extras depend on preference and temperatures. I ended up taking off my gloves and gaiter because I was getting too hot, and I preferred to wear my regular sunglasses over goggles. However, the boys loved these goggles and gloves. The gaiters I got for them were one size, and they didn’t care for them much. I loved my gaiter, but it was just too hot for it. Also, this lightweight waterproof backpack was perfect for holding snacks, water, and all the stuff I ended up taking off, haha! Navid and I already had snow boots, but I grabbed these boots for the boys, and they were perfect. They kept their feet warm and dry.
Extras
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! Don’t forget your sunscreen as well as a lip balm with SPF. If the sun’s out, you’re guaranteed a gnarly sunburn.
You’ll need a warm hat or a suitable headband that will cover your ears if you don’t have a neck gaiter with a hood.
